Economist have observed that spending on restaurant meals declines more during economic downturns than does spending on food to be eaten at home. How might the concept of elasticity help to explain this phenomenon?

  1. The elasticity of demand is greater for restuarant meals then for basic food supplies (one can choose to eat at home far more easily than choosing to not eat at all, eh?)
