  1. I'm answering this as if "our country" meant the U.S.

    No, ecotourism wouldn't help.  Major ecological attractions are far-removed from large centers of commerce.

    People paying to drive around in Yellowstone will help the airlines and the state of Wyoming/Colorado.

    Our country's economy is based on industry.  People have to buy goods to help boost the economy.  Tourism is okay, but purchase Made in the USA is the best answer.
