Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL defeats SCHWERINER SC by 3-2 – CEV Volleyball Champions League
A Pool A match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League took place between the home team of Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL as well as the SCHWERINER SC.
The competition between the two sides was held in Istanbul, Turkey while the venue of the match was the Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall.
The resulting clash between the two teams went on for five thrilling sets that kept things exciting all through the long frames. However, the team that was able to grab a win and make it to the quarter-finals of the tournament was Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL.
By the time that the home team was celebrating their hard earned win and the guests were walking out of the court in disappointment, the scoreboard showed the following final set scores, 29-31, 25-20, 25-21, 22-25 and 15-12.
The head coach of the winning team, Lorenzo Micelli, expressed himself in the following words at the press conference that was conducted after the match had reached its close, “This victory is very important. We did not play our best but still we won. I
would like to congratulate our opponents on their fantastic performance. I trust my players and I am sure we will score some more great wins this season.”
The first set of the match saw the guests take the lead early on at 8-7 with the coming of the first technical time out. Not only that, the SCHWERINER SC were also able to maintain their advantage till 18-16 and later on at 21-17.
However, the home team did not give up the chase and was able to make the frame reach a tie at 24 all but the Germans were able to bag the set at 31-29.
The French team started off the second frame in a dominating fashion and were able to get the lead at the start. Once they had the advantage, the home team stuck with it until the very end at 25-20. The momentum generated by winning the second set got the
French to perform well in the third frame too that followed a similar pattern as the previous one and also ended in favour of the French at 25-21. The Germans responded by bagging the fourth frame but the fifth one rested with the home team.
