Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul vs. RC Cannes preview
Wednesday, February 9, 2011 is a big night for Turkish women’s volleyball team, Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul, as they will be playing for a slot in playoffs 6 of 2011 CEV Champions League.
They are scheduled to take on France’s RC Cannes on home soil. This will be the second meeting of these two teams in the playoffs 12 round.
In the first match of the round on February 2, 2011, the Turkish squad staged a classical performance and successfully dismantled the power of their opponents in straight sets. The match was played in Cannes, France but the home team couldn’t take advantage
of familiar conditions.
This time around, the French girls have travelled all the way to Istanbul, Turkey to play the second match of the round.
After scoring a splendid victory last week, the Turks seem to be in a pretty favourable position to book a slot in the Playoffs 6. The match is scheduled to start at 1730 local time (Turkey).
The emotional support of local spectators will be a plus point for Eczacibasi and they have brighter prospects to give out a wonderful performance.
*N.B. In the light new rules introduced this year, any team in the Playoffs 12 has to win both its matches. So that it will qualify for the next round of Playoffs 6. In the case of tie, a golden set will be played.
The Turks already have one victory in hand and are they are enjoying top form at the moment. The manager of Turkish team, Nalan Ural stated:
“In the first leg of the Playoffs 12, we scored a very important victory against RC Cannes in front of a full house, with some 3,000 spectators. This time we have the home advantage as well as our supporters there, so we want to profit from
this opportunity”.
