Eczacibasi vitra ISTANBUL defeats MC-Carnaghi VILLA CORTESE by 3-1
A Pool A match of the CEV Volleyball Champions League- Women took place recently between Eczacibasi vitra ISTANBUL and MC-Carnaghi VILLA CORTESE.
The match between the two sides was played in the Turkish city of Istanbul. The venue of the match was the Castellanza. The two teams put on a good show of volleyball skills that took the match to four long and gruelling sets at the end of which the home
team was able to find itself on the winning end.
The home team was able to earn itself the second place in their pool after having secured a win over the Italian squad. The final set scores stood at the following figures after the match had reached its close: 25-14, 25-13, 22-25 and 25-20.
The coach of the winning team, Lorenzo Micelli, expressed himself in the following words after the4 match had reached its close, “We displayed our full potential in the first two sets. However, we lost focus in the third set and this immediately helped our
opponents. The fourth set was very tough but we played good and finally closed it with a 3:1. Now we have to prepare for our next match with RC CANNES coming up in January.”
The first set of the match started well for the ISTANBUL team as they were able to take the lead at 4-1 but the Italian squad was able to equalise the match at 4-4 but the home team was leading once again at 8-5. The Italians tried to stop the onward march
of the Turkish but the home team proved to be too strong and earned themselves the opening set of the game at 25-14.
The win achieved in the first frame got the Turkish to come out strong in the second set as well. The Italians could not pull themselves together and the Turkish were able to swing things in their favour as they pushed on head long towards another at 25-13.
The third set of the match got some sparks flying from the Italians and they were able to avoid a clean sweep by bagging the third frame.
However, that was the only moment of glory for the Italians as the Turkish took the fourth frame to win the match.
