Ed Cowan, the debutant Australian opener, has expressed grave concerns over the absence of the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) in the ongoing Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
Cowan who lost his wicket for 68 runs via a controversial caught behind decision, claims that had the new technology been available he would not have been dismissed.
The 1st Test of the four match series started at the Melbourne Cricket Ground today with the Aussies batting first. Cowan opened the innings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301. The debutant batted exceptionally well and amassed 68 runs off 177 balls with the help
of 7 fours.
Unfortunately, the batsman was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-James-Gould-c63876, deemed him to be ‘OUT’, but the television replays clearly indicated that the ball had not found the edge of the bat.
Cowan has attributed this ambiguous decision to the absence of the DRS. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not allow http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) to make
the application of the system mandatory in all Test matches.
Speaking to the media at the end of the day’s play, the star batsman, who paved the way for his selection in the Test squad after scoring an emphatic century during a warm-up game last week said, “As someone who loves his cricket and has watched a lot of
cricket, I just don't understand why it can't be handed down by the ICC to be uniform in all the game. And that's me speaking as an outsider and not as someone who has been in the bubble for a long time.”
He further said, “I was disappointed to get out. It was a bit of a lazy shot. You saw the replays, you saw my reaction, you can join the dots I guess. With the DRS, I'm an interesting perspective because I've been a consumer of the game for so long. This
is day one on the job for me."
The 29-year-old was honoured to bat alongside his most senior teammate and former captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377, who was amongst the runs, as he scored 62 with the help of 6 boundaries, to help Australia end Day 1 at 277 for 6.
