Ed Cowan praises a strong-minded http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TD-Paine-c2652 – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Graham-Downton-c44379 Cowan has praised wicket-keeper, Tim Paine, for his strong-mindedness after returning to action following a 12-month injury lay-off.
Paine, 27, will play his first game since July of last year after recovering from a broken finger. He is the preferred gloveman for the A team, which are currently on tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, where they will contest Derbyshire in a three-day game starting tomorrow.
His career has stalled since he made his Test debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in 2010. Always touted as Brad Haddin’s long-term replacement, the Tasmanian suffered a broken finger during an exhibition match in November of the same year after being struck by a rising
delivery from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DP-Nannes-c1396.
He recovered to take part in the domestic season, and even became part of the Australian A side which toured http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 in July 2011. However, tragedy struck again when he suffered another similar finger injury while on pre-season training with his domestic
side, forcing him to miss all of the last term.
It left him dejected and in great pain, both physically and mentally. A lot changed has since then, with Haddin himself becoming surplus to requirement and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Wade-c1933 taking the opportunity with both hands. Wade, who is Paine’s childhood friend, also went
onto earn a Test cap, and further proved his credentials by scoring a century in his debut series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
However, since returning to action, the 27-year-old was quickly included in the Australian A squad, proving that the selectors are keen on him to get back to match fitness and push for a place in the national team. Cowan, who made his Test debut in recent
times, was simply respectful of the determination shown by his fellow Tasmanian.
"I don't think people understand a lot of the time what goes on behind the scenes for guys to get themselves fit," Cowan said.
"Not just physically but mentally, there's a lot of moments when you're injured for a long time that you start doubting if you'll ever play again or play as well as you did. Those are natural thoughts he's had to overcome, and in the last four or five months
he's proved to himself that he's right, he's ready to play and prove himself and push back for international selection.”
