The emerging top-order batsman of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, Ed Cowan, has said that though he was a bit disappointed at missing out the list of centrally contracted players, the snub would serve as a great incentive for him to work hard and cement his spot at the top of
the order, in Australia’s Test side.
Cowan’s absence from the list of Cricket Australia's centrally contracted players for 2012-13 season, released on Friday, June 22, surprised many. But the 30-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 batsman added that he probably had not scored enough runs to sway the John
Inverarity-led panel of selectors to hand him a deal.
"I've had a great opportunity to cement that spot at the top of the order and I probably haven't scored the runs that I probably should have scored,” said Ed Cowan, who made his Test debut during the Boxing Day Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 last year.
Since debuting in international cricket late last year, Cowan has been part of Australia’s last seven Test match squads, scoring 358 runs in 12 innings, at an average of 29.83. The tally included three half centuries (68, 74 and 55), but not a single ton.
And Cowan feels he would have been in a comfortable position had he scored a couple of centuries over the past six months.
“That conversation could have been ended pretty quickly with a couple of Test hundreds in the last seven Tests,” said the left-handed top-order batsman, who is in Brisbane these days, preparing for the upcoming tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 with Australia A team.
Ed Cowan, who plays for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 Tigers in Australia's domestic cricket, has been appointed as the captain of Australia A team for the tour of England in July and August this year, and is looking forward to put some runs on the board during the itinerary
and confirm his spot at the top of the order for November’s home Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
“I'm looking forward to hopefully opening the batting for Australia come the Gabba in November, putting some runs on the board and earning my way back on to the contract list,” said Cowan, adding, “I think that's a really great incentive to keep the fire
burning in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597.”
