Ed Dunlop hoping Burwaaz to strike in Bathwick Tyres Carnarvon Stakes at Newbury
Trainer Ed Dunlop has pinned up heavy hopes on Burwaaz, who is all set to unleash his talent in the Bathwick Tyres Carnarvon Stakes, taking place at Newbury on Friday, May 18th. Since winning at Leicester last season, the 3-year-old has run many
good races, but all in defeat.
After a seven-month-long layoff, the son of Exceed And Excel returned to action at the start of this month. The spectators at Kempton saw him ending up third in the class 1 blluesquare.com ascot.co.uk Pavilion Stakes.
Burwaaz held up in rear early in the race. Although he improved his work significantly afterwards and did a fantastic job in the final stages of the event, he failed to trouble the top pair of Gusto and Bannock. The bit slipped through his mouth and as a
result, he missed the runner-up place by ¾ a length.
Dunlop expressed delight over his charge’s fantastic work despite suffering a lot of mess on the course. He also hoped for a better result this time, saying that the colt is geared up to become a stakes winner.
"I really hope he wins. The bit went through his mouth when he came round the bend and was unrideable so he did fantastically well even to finish third. I knew there were other unlucky stories in the race but I do hope this is his day to make him a stakes
winner," Dunlop said ahead of the Newbury clash.
On the other hand, the Clive Cox-trained, Lethal Force, is raring to go following a comfortable win at Bath last month. The class 5 Peri Ltd Median Auction Maiden Stakes saw him topping the table by staggering nine lengths.
Enormously delighted over his colt’s superb win at Bath, Clive Cox is expecting the 3-year-old Force to build on his maiden success and present a fine show in today’s Bathwick Tyres Carnarvon Stakes.
"He won his maiden easily at Bath. He was pleasing as a two-year-old without getting his head in front. He's a very decent performer and I hope conditions at Newbury continue to dry out," uttered the Lambourn handler.
