Ed Joyce waits for Ireland World Cup decision
Sussex batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ed-Joyce-c1417 says he expects a decision over whether he'll be able to play for Ireland at the 2011 World Cup to arrive within the next two weeks.
Joyce opened the batting for England at the last World Cup and is not eligible to play for Ireland until next April. However, Joyce has asked for a special exception as the next World Cup begins in February.
"I am hopeful it will happen but I have not been given any indication how it will go. The impression I got when we started this process with Cricket Ireland was that there were a few people on side and
that it was looking fairly likely," said Joyce.
Joyce would add a great deal to a developing Ireland side. The main problem is that there are numerous examples in the past where players have been made to wait to represent various countries.
A good idea
This whole issue is a good idea because Joyce would add a lot of quality to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 team. He's a versatile batsman who can play in a number of different ways according to the match situation.
He has experience of playing to a very high level with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817. This is experience he can share with younger members of the Ireland team.
The problem is that no exceptions were made when South African-born Kevin Pietersen decided he wanted to play for England or when Australian Trent Johnston decided he wanted to play for Ireland. This means
Joyce could be forced to wait.
"I have not heard anything and the decision is expected in the next couple of weeks. It is out of my hands but I am hopeful it will happen. I played 16 or 17 games for England. I had some good games and
a few bad ones," he added.
