Ed Paredes scheduled to take on Vivian Harris in a non-title 10-round bout – Boxing News
Ed Paredes, the former WBC Latino welterweight champion, will enter the ring in a 10-round bout to take on Vivian Harris, the former WBA World light welterweight champion, and will headline the pay-per-view which will take place on Friday May 18, 2012.
The Friday night show will be co-headlined by the non-title 10-round super featherweight clash between Argenis Mendez and Leonilo Miranda. The fight card which will be completed in the upcoming days is being organised and promoted by Henry Rivalta of Acquinity
Sports.
The ring for the huge 10-bout special edition will be stretched at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino situated in Hollywood, Florida, United States. Ed, 27, has been in a total 34 bouts and emerged victorious in 30.
He has collected 20 of his total wins by knocking the opponent out cold and is considered as a decent pound-for-pound pugilist who boasts wins over names such as Manuel Leyva, Michael Lozada, Alexander Hernandez, Juliano Ramos, Antonio Pitalua and others.
His Friday night opponent Vivian has been in a total 39 bouts and boasts 29 wins. He has nailed 19 of his opponents by knockout and has collected more losses than Ed. Vivian is currently going through the toughest time of his career.
In his last six bouts he has collected four losses, one draw and one no contest decision. It must also be noted that all of his six opponents were rookies and possessed experience far lower than Vivian.
Vivian is in dire need of a breakthrough since his recent losses have completely tarnished his reputation in the division. A former world champion taking on young lads like Jessie Vargas and Lucas Martin Matthysse and losing via knockout is an aspect that
should be dealt with properly.
The odds are in favour of Ed, also known as ‘The Lion’, due to various reasons. He possesses a better win ratio and knockout proficiency, has the home town advantage and above all has grabbed wins over big names authoritatively unlike Vivian.
Vivian, on the other hand, has a slight height and therefore the reach advantage at his disposal. Moreover, he has his experience alongside him but both of these facets are useless if he is unable to capitalise an opportunity.
Ed is a hard hitter therefore Vivian needs to evade him and throw his powerful jabs from quite a distance. Vivian, widely known as ‘The Vicious’, can grab a win if he is able to defend his chin otherwise Ed, who will start things off aggressively from the
very first bell, will not spare him at all.
The bout will be a tough one and will definitely collect due praise from the crowd. Vivian seriously needs to think at revamping his strategy as he is a former world champion and cannot afford to be a surging young brawler’s punching bag.
