Ed Paredes takes on Manuel Leyva in 10-round bout on ESPN2’s Friday Fight Nights show – Boxing news
Ed Paredes, the WBC Latino welterweight title holder, is scheduled to take on Manuel Leyva, the former WBA Fedecaribe lightweight title holder, in a 10-round bout and will co-headline ESPN 2’s Friday night show which will be televised on March 2, 2012.
ESPN holds its weekly show which is designated specially to the sport of boxing and televises special edition that includes many prolific pugilists either brawling in a title fight or simply skirmishing to improve their stats and hence their rankings.
The Friday night ‘Fight Nights’ show will be headlined by the championship bout between Joan Guzman and Jesus Pabon. Both men will fight for WBC FECARBOX light welterweight title for 10-rounds. The ring will be setup at Westin Diplomat Resort, situated in
Hollywood, Florida, USA.
The show will also include two other bouts. Jose Silveira will take on Juan Carlos Payano in the bantamweight division whereas Claudio Marrero will brawl against Gerardo Zayas in the featherweight division. Both the fights will be 10-round non-title bouts.
Ed, widely known as ‘The Lion’, has been in a total 33 bouts and came out victorious in 29. He has collected 19 of his wins by knockout and is recently coming from a huge knockout win over Michael Lozada. In a recent interview Paredes shared his feelings
regarding the epic skirmish against Lozada and said, “It was definitely an experience that tested my patience.”
Paredes said that he is in great shape adding that he wants such kind of appearances since they are a golden chance for him to prosper more and get a title shot as soon as possible. The American Ed currently resides at 43rd position in world rankings.
The 26-year-old said, “Being on ESPN2 makes this fight even more important. The large audience that will be watching gives me the chance to prove how far I can go in boxing.”
While recalling his great win against Michael, Ed commented, “That was a big win, it has given me more recognition.”
Paredes informed that his way up to the world title brawl comes from participating events like this one.
Ed commented, “I know that I just have to keep taking advantage of these chances, like fighting on ESPN2, because they can all lead to a world title fight.”
Ed’s opponent Manuel Leyva, infamous as Pirry, is a Mexican and resides far in the welterweight rankings. The 29-year-old Manuel has been in a total 25 brawls. The southpaw has won 21 of his total encounters and 12 by knockout.
