Ed Whitehead and Alice Kingsnorth of Parkstone Yacht Club win 1st round of RS200 SW Ugly Tour
First round of the 2012 RS200 SW Ugly Tour brought some classy sailing moments at the Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club. With impressive sailing techniques on the Bristolian waters, Parkstone Yacht Club’s Ed Whitehead and Alice Kingsnorth were able to claim
the top podium place in the overall standings after sailing in four races, including a discard.
The pair in the Gold fleet clinched two bullets during their sailing run in the event along with a second position finish and a sixth spot. According to the rules, one race was discarded from the final scores and Whitehead and Kingsnorth earned four points
to win the regatta. The regatta featured 20 sailing teams from around the continent that participated in four scheduled races.
The weather conditions on the Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club were quite shifty and strong which troubled the sailors and the proceedings started a bit late. After the breeze settled down to moderate position, the race committee began the racing on the course.
Overall the winds blew from 10 to 27 knots during the racing in the event.
Start of the regatta for Whitehead and Kingsnorth was not according to the expectations as they finished on sixth podium in the opening race. However, the pair bounced back into the event with a superb finish in the second and third race. A second place
in the fourth race brought them on top of the standings and they were able to claim the regatta title.
With just one point down to the standings leaders, Matt Mee and Emma Norris of Red Wharf Bay Sailing Club clinched the second position with five points. Meanwhile, John Teague and Louis Fisher from the host club finished on third place with nine points.
Overall standings at the end of the event:
1. 822 Ed Whitehead, Alice Kingsnorth, Parkstone YC -6 1 1 2 = 4 points
