Eddie Alvarez to fight Patricky Freire in October this year – UFC News
Fomrer Bellator lightweight titlist Eddie Alvarez will be returning to action on October 12, as announced by promotion CEO Bjorn Rebney announced earlier this week. Alvarez will fight against Patricky Freire in Windsor, Ontario.
This will be Alvarez’s last bout for Bellator, as per his deal. Once he is a free agent, he will consider his options to see which one is most suitable for him, revealed Rebney.
Currently, Eddie Alvarez stands with 23 wins and 3 losses. He last fought on November 19, 2011. He lost his 155-pound title to Michael Chandler. Now, he is looking forward to make his comeback, hoping he can cement an epic end to his legacy.
Chandler will be defending his title for the first time against Rick Hawn. There were chances of Chandler facing Alvarez in a rematch this year but now it is not happening.
In an interview recently with MMA Radio, Chandler revealed, “I don't need another fight, I can't really ask for more than finishing somebody. Obviously it was a war and that's the cool thing about fighting, you can call it a war, but at the end of the day
if someone got finished it's over. It wasn't like someone just got caught with something like a punch or a slick submission. It was me finishing a fight that could've gone either way if I was prepared to let it go the other way, but for my personal feelings
I'm not interested in a rematch.”
For now, Alvarez is on his way to conclude his deal with Bellator with his last fight. Eddie Alvarez has always been an excellent fighter, but his recent loss to Chandler has doomed his career. His comeback bout will be a significant one for him. Since he
will turn a free agent soon, he needs to prove his mettle against his opponent to ensure he gets better deals.
Alvarez cannot afford another loss. One more black spot on his career and he will not be considered by most of the MMA organisation, especially by the UFC. He needs to set his record straight in order to be considered.
