Eddie Hearn: I will bring Kell Brook back to Sheffield – Boxing News
Eddie Hearn, promoter of Kell Brook of Matchroom Sport, believes it is about time to bring the undefeated welterweight contender to Sheffield. Brook defeated Matthew Hatton on Saturday night and will now fight this summer probably in Sheffield, at least
that is what his promoter is planning.
Eddie Hearns, in his recent interview, said, “We’re going to come back to Sheffield in the summer for a big, big fight…He [Brook] didn’t come out of 1st gear. He’s got five gears.”
Brook defeated Hatton in a 12-round to continue with his undefeated streak. Brook wants to take on former unified IBF and WBA super lightweight champion Amir Khan. According to his promoter, his next fight will be the biggest fight of his career, since he
has now proved his skills by beating Hatton. In his previous interviews, he has spoken of facing Khan but now he is more certain than anything that he can beat him. Brook is actually very desperate to get a match against Khan. In his recent interview, he said,
“I want Khan. When I made this fight, Khan said if he had to fight anybody in Britain it would be Matthew because he thinks he’s the best welterweight. Now I have beaten Matthew. He has nowhere else to go here. If that fight happens I’ll smash him and if I
don’t I’ll do my own things.”
On the other hand, Matthew Hatton commented on Brook’s skills, saying, “Kell is definitely a future world champion. It wasn’t the speed that was the problem. He was very hard to hit.”
As of now, there is no news of Amir Khan even acknowledging Brook’s challenge. He is busy preparing for his bout against the current IBF and WBA super lightweight champion Lamont Peterson. Khan will be taking on Peterson on May 19 at the Mandalay Bay Resort
in Las Vegas. The bout will be a rematch in which Khan will have the opportunity to regain his titles that we taken away by Peterson in December last year. Peterson defeated Khan through a controversial decision but now it is his ultimate to prove he is the
better fighter against Khan in May.
