Eddie Hearn believes Devon Alexander is afraid to fight in Britain – Boxing News
Promoter for Kell Brook, Eddie Hearn is of the view that IBF welterweight titlist Devon Alexander is afraid to fight his client in the United Kingdom, which is Brook’s hometown. Reports suggest that Brook and Alexander are scheduled to fight for the title
on January 19.
The venue for the fight has not been decided yet, and there are chances of it happening in either New York or Las Vegas. Brook has already refused for the fight to be held in Alexander’s hometown St Louis and similarly Devon’s camp has declined the idea
of fighting in Brook’s hometown.
“We've made multiple offers to Devon Alexander, all well in excess of seven figures and he didn't want to come to the UK,” said Hearn, as reported by World Boxing News. “You get to the stage where you run the risk of winning the purse bid [if negotiations
are unsuccessful] and have Devon Alexander vacating his title. Then we resort to running down the list of the IBF rankings.
“No disrespect to guys like [division contenders] Jan Zaveck and Rafal Jackiewicz but we can't get the respect we deserve winning the world title against those type of guys.”
Hearn added that most people are thinking Brook will never go to the USA to fight. According to him, Brook will go to the USA to fight Alexander to silence his critics and to show the world that he indeed is an elite fighter.
Hearn added that Alexander will have to bring himself up for this fight. Hearn believes the venue is filled with fans of Brook then the Briton will be even better in the ring.
Kell Brook is already at his career’s best. He is looking forward to face fellow Briton fighter Amir Khan, once he defeats Alexander to grab the title. Khan already promised Brook a fight, if the latter is successful in grabbing a world title.
For now, there is no news whether Brook will go to the USA or not. However, chances of Alexander visiting the UK for the fight have been quashed by Hearn’s statements.
