Eddie Hearn looking forward to Carl Froch and Bernard Hopkins clash – Boxing news
Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch, who recently clobbered the Jamaican pugilist Glen Johnson in the semi-final of the Super Six Classics tournament in Atlantic City, could probably be a shock opponent for the legendary Bernard Hopkins.
The 33-year-old Nottingham’s boxer Froch, who is set to meet the unbeaten American World Boxing Association’s World Super Middleweight Champion Andre Ward in the final of the Super Six Classics tournament later in 2011, will have to defend his title against
the likes of Mikkel Kessler or Lucian Bute, provided he wins against Ward.
However, Froch’s new promoter Eddie Hearn reckons his fighter can unify the title if he takes on the 46-year-old Executioner Bernard Hopkins, who recently stunned Jean Pascal to lift the World Boxing Council’s and International Boxing Organization’s light
heavyweight belts.
He told the media that Kessler and Bute are definitely in the queue but the likes of Hopkins could be a worthy option. He then also commented on George Groves and James DeGale.
While speaking on his inclusion, he remarked, “Kessler and Bute are the obvious candidates. But the like of Bernard Hopkins, who was in Atlantic City on Saturday and talked about fighting Carl, is an option. And, further down the line, George Groves or James
DeGale could face Carl if they prove their worth.”
He also revealed that Hopkins was present at the Froch-Johnson bout in the Atlantic City on June 4, 2011 and talked to him about fighting Froch.
Froch’s Nottingham’s representative Mike West, in the meanwhile also said that he believes that Froch should unify the titles now, as he thinks Froch is a true warrior and his city residents should be proud of him.
He stated, “He is a true world champion and everyone in Nottinghamshire should be proud of him. I expect him to go on to win the final and unify the world titles now.”
Let’s see if Froch, who is aiming for Kessler after winning against Ward, sets up a clash against Bernard Hopkins or not.
