Eddie Jordan sees a bright future for Nico Rosberg
The founder and team owner of the former Formula One team, Jordan and now a BBC commentator, Eddie Jordan sees a bright future for the Mercedes GP driver, Nico Rosberg. Jordan not only sees the young German dominate the track
once again next year but also believes that very soon he is going to clinch the World Championship.
While talking to the media this Monday, the former team owner praised the natural talent and flawless driving skills of Rosberg, believing that the young German will be seen over shadowing his teammate and fellow countryman, Michael
Schumacher. The seven times world champion and statistically the most successful driver ever in the Formula One world, Schumacher made his comeback at the start of the 2010 season, after having left the grid for a period of three years. Despite the huge fanfare
and hype that was created for the superstar’s return, in a Mercedes GP, which was successful in bagging both the Drivers’ as well as the Constructors’ Championship just a year back. However, the performance of both the driver and his team was very disappointing
all through the season. The only good thing seen in the team all across the season was his junior driver, Rosberg.
While the 41-year old kept blaming the car for his poor performance, Rosberg kept on bagging points and positions every now and then. At the end of the season, the 25-year old stood at 7th place with his 142 points,
while his teammate and a far senior driver was hardly able to grab 72 points standing only at 9th place in the annual drivers’ standings.
Now, looking at last season’s show, Jordan does not see a very different season ahead for both the drivers. While talking to the media earlier this week he stated, “Rosberg could turn out to be the real darling because if the car
was as grim as what Michael was making reference to then you have to say, hang on a second, Rosberg absolutely pasted him in virtually every capacity, certainly in qualifying, in race technique, in all the usual benefits you would expect Michael Schumacher
to excel in."
Believing all this, Jordan sees Rosberg giving the same performances next year as well. He also believes that the young lad continues doing equally good in the next few seasons, he will be able to become a world champion in the
years to come.
In 1991, it was Jordan who gave Schumacher the big break of his life, as he entered the Formula One world, driving in place of Bertrand Gachot. However, the entire 2010 season saw him criticising Schumacher immensely.
Now, as the season has come to an end, the BBC commentator stated, "Technically within the team, everything is circling around Michael Schumacher and for very good reason. He is the PR management within this structure and of course
a seven-time world champion. It is quite clear he only came back to be in that team as a number one."
However, despite the fact that he thinks very highly of Rosberg, Jordan admits the fact that the 2011 season will once again favour the current world champion, Sebastian Vettel. Seeing his pace and form and the strength of his
team, Red Bull Racing, the sport’s pundit believes that the next season will be a very tough one for all the rivals of the youngest champion of the sports’ history, Vettel.
He concluded saying that the 2011 grid is going to be one of the most exciting and entertaining ever seen in 60 years of the sport, with five world champions and several other great racers ready to go head to head against one another.
