However, neither of the two managers’ have admitted contact from the Blues and it remains to be seen who will ultimately get the manager’s position at the club. According to Newton, they were not yet aware of their future with the club.
Newton said in an interview:
“Nothing has changed. The situation is that we're contracted to the end of the season, June 30.
We're still digesting what we've done. But nobody at the club is telling us anything.
We all want what's best for Chelsea but we have absolutely no idea what the club thinks that is.”
Di Matteo, the former Chelsea assistant manager under Andre Villas-Boas, was made the interim manager when the young Portuguese boss was sacked in March. Since then he has done incredibly well with the club, taking them to two cup victories.
However, he was unable to secure a top four position for them in the English Premier League table, which could work against him when it comes down to it. Newton revealed that no one at the club had told them anything regarding their future at Chelsea and
that they were still currently waiting on news.
