Eddie Ockenden looking for Australian Hockey League glory
Eddie Ockenden, the veteran hockey star of Kookaburras, along with Tim Deavin and Luke Doerner, is donning the colours of Australian Hockey League (AHL) representing Tasmania Tigers. The three players are quite optimistic to upgrade the status of their
squad in the tournament.
It is worth mentioning here that the Tasmania Tigers will face Queensland and Northern Territory in the upcoming round that is scheduled to be held at the Tasmania Hockey Centre in Perth and Hobart from June 26 to June 28, 2011.
The 24-year-old Ockenden has scored 34 goals in 122 caps in the international career. He made his debut back in 2006 in Malaysia during the Azlan Shah Cup. In an unmatched move, he displayed impressive performances and touched the new heights of the
game. He was selected as the Young Player of the Year twice back in 2007 and 2008. He was also part of the Kookaburras squad that lifted the bronze medal in 2008 Olympics and clinched the gold medals in the 2010 World Cup and the Commonwealth Games.
Speaking to the media about the upcoming AHL fixtures, the seasoned striker-c*m-midfielder was of the view that they had improved the performance of the Tasmania Tigers in the previous years that hopefully will show results in the on-going season.
He further stated that Tasmania Tigers were a quite balanced and splendid squad and it has the ability to defeat any team in the tournament. He said, “Tassie has a great side with good balance and if we continue to improve we can beat anyone. We have
been able to train with the Tigers more than in previous years, which I think has really helped.”
Commenting on the future of the game, the striking Australian star was of the opinion that the Olympic gold medal is one of his major desires to be achieved.
On the other hand, Luke Doerner is also a seasonal hockey pro who has 156 international caps. He was one of the best drag flickers who has notched 106 goals. With combination of technique of power and pace, the veteran short-corner master graced the
colours of the game.
The third best name of Tasmania Tigers is Tim Deavin who has less experience as compared to the aforementioned players. He started playing international hockey back in 2010 during the Champions Trophy. He has played 22 international games so far and
demonstrated impressive performances to retain the number-one position of his team.
It is vital to write it here that the Tasmania Tigers had played on three semi-finals on different occasions in past five years; however, they failed to book a place for finals. The fabled hockey troika will put all efforts to make an entry into the
title-claiming fixture.
