Eddie Pepperell ready for his debut at US Open – Golf news
Eddie Pepperell of England is set to make his debut this week at the second major golf championship of the season, the US Open, and is confident to make a quick start at the Merion Golf Club, on Thursday, June 13, 2013.
Pepperell is among the four players who made it into the prestigious US Open through the qualifying tournament held two weeks ago – Chris Doak, John Parry and Jaco Van Zyl were the other three players who managed to qualify for the event.
He is currently the youngest among the quartet – he is 22 years old – and having recently recorded a joint sixth finish at the European Tour’s flagship event, BMW PGA Championship, the Englishman is eyeing his first US Open this week.
“It is just great,” he said. “The American hospitality and people, they love it. You can see the crowds here and they are mad for it. It is a new thing for me to see that kind of hype and I am loving it. But at the end of the day it is another tournament
and once you step out there on the first tee you have to start playing and nothing will be that different other than the amount of people hooting and hollering.”
He is currently scheduled to tee off at 1:58 pm on the first tee, right in front of the Merion Terrace, which will, no doubt, be a nerve jangling shot for him.
“No question that will be a nerve-wracking shot so I have to step up and commit to that,” he added.
Talking to the reporters in the media room at Merion, he also stated that the behaviour of the course will completely be different compared to what he expected, due to the fact that it rained heavily last weekend.
According to the weather forecast, the rain may further affect the course on Thursday, making it a bit difficult for the players to gain distances.
That is the reason why most of the players have said that accuracy will be the key at Merion this week, rather than playing long shots throughout the week.
