Eddie Wineland collects first UFC win over Scott Jorgensen
via second round knockout – UFC News
Eddie Wineland, the former World Extreme Cagefighting bantamweight champion, collected an impressive rather vicious knockout win over his Friday night opponent, Scott Jorgensen, in the second round of the three-round bout held on June 8, 2012.
The bout enthralled the crowd and literally collected much praise from all the mixed martial art fanatics present at the BankAtlantic Center situated in Sunrise, Florida, United States.
Eddie and Scott gave in their best to put forth a stiff competition, so much so that the bout won the Fight of the Night honour at the end of the day. Wineland, 27, was entering his career's 28th bout and was in dire need to make a statement.
Since the inception of his Ultimate Fighting Championship career, Eddie was going through a tough phase of his career as he lost both of his first two bouts. This was his third career bout and yet again against an opponent who boasted a pretty decent resume.
Eddie basically follows the knockout stance and has collected nine of his wins by knockout, five by submission, and three by decision. From the very beginning of the bout, Eddie adopted a hardcore aggressive stance and did not let Scott seal his grip on
the octagon floor.
Scott also replied Eddie in the same way and connected considerable number of jabs but it was Wineland who threw substantial number of jabs with frequent intervals. Scott’s stance visibly revealed that he was not that much agile as compared to Eddie who
connected his right hand emphatically without any problem every now and then by evading Scott’s attacks.
The first round was slightly dominated by Eddie as Scott did counter the Indiana lad by his powerful kicks and blows. With the start of the second round, it was Scott who moved in and attempted a successful takedown.
Eddie went on the octagon floor but soon stood back up on his feet. It was this very moment when Jorgensen’s knee connected to Eddie’s forehead. The strike opened a cut causing the blood to gush out messing all his face up.
Eddie did not lose hope and continued his brawl by throwing two consecutive right hands. Scott lost his feet and moved backwards, a moment that Eddie emphatically capitalised.
Wineland moved in and connected three more jabs finally sealing his very first UFC win. With this win Eddie has not only broken his two-bout loss streak but has also caught media’s eye since Scott is not an easy brawler to deal with.
Scott, on the other hand, has collected his second UFC loss and now has two wins and two losses in UFC.
