Eddie Wineland out due to injury from UFC on Fox 2 – UFC News
The 27-year-old American mixed martial art (MMA) fighter Eddie Wineland has been sidelined due to an injury.
Wineland was set to fight against Johnny Bedford in January 2012 at UFC on Fox 2. This is another blow to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) when many of its UFC fighters pulled out of various events due to injuries.
For Wineland, UFC on Fox 2 would have been a breakthrough event. He has been on a two fight losing streak. He lost to Urijah Faber at UFC 12 in March 2011 followed by his second defeat to Joseph Benavidez at UFC Live event in August 2011. Wineland made his
MMA debut in 2003 with a win over Joel Cleverly.
According to reports, the CEO of UFC, Dana White officially announced that Wineland has been pulled off from UFC on Fox 2. He further stated that Wineland would be part of the flyweight debut tournament in March 2012 which UFC would be holding in Sydney.
At UFC on Fox 2, Wineland was scheduled to take part in the bantamweight division fight against Bradford. With Wineland out, he would need to wait for the right time to enter the fighting cage and get a win.
Wineland’s opponent at UFC on Fox 2 was Bedford who is now waiting for his new opponent. UFC matchmaker Joe Silva has been very busy over the past few weeks. He has the duty of booking fights and keeping an eye on any possible injuries. With Wineland out
of competition, Silva would now be doing some research on who would be his opponent.
In the recent few days, TJ Grant was replaced from UFC 141 due to an injury. Ramsey Nijem was also pulled off from the same event due to an injury. Erik Koch was the third fighter who was taken off the fight card from UFC 141 due to an injury. From UFC 142,
four fighters were taken off. These included Siyar Bahadurzada, Rob Broughton, Paulo Thiago and Stanislav Nedkov. These injuries have really kept UFC on its toes because things have shaken up inside the CEO’s office. According to sources, the schedules of
fights have been drastically changed because of these injuries.
