Eddy Curry all set to move to China to play in national basketball league – NBA News
After bouncing around a number of teams the past two seasons, Eddy Curry is finally bound to China to play in the country’s national basketball league. Curry, who played for the Miami Heat for 14 games last season and ended up
picking a championship ring, was a part of the San Antonio Spurs roster at the beginning of training camp. Although he did well with the team under Gregg Popovich and turned a few heads around, Curry was dropped from the team because of lack of roster space.
The Dallas Mavericks then picked him up and he played with them in the preseason. Curry started in two regular season games with the Mavericks this season, but they cut him loose as well. Now, Sportando reports that he has got a contract with a team in the
Chinese basketball league and will be off to China very soon.
“Eddy Curry has signed in China with Zhejiang Golden Bulls and he will likely replace Josh Boone in the roster, Sina reports,” wrote Emiliano Carchia on his twitter account.
The Chinese Basketball league has become a great attraction for NBA stars who are entering the twilight of their career and finding it more and more difficult to get a gig in the league after the new CBA. Hence, the trend of players
moving to China to showcase their skills in an emerging market is going to be a trend that we expect to see a lot of in the coming years. And the move could be a great one for Curry as well, as some former NBA players have found a great deal of success and
fame while playing in China. Stephon Marbury won the national championship with his Chinese team last season, and has become a household name in China. J.R.Smith also had a brief but successful stint in the Chinese league.
Curry has played 10 seasons in the NBA with teams such as the Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks. He has a career average of 13 points, 5.2 rebounds and 0.7 blocks over the course of his career. The Chinese league could use
a player like Curry, who not only has experience of playing in the NBA but will also help to attract more crowd and media towards the league.
