Eden’s Moon takes on the turf surface in the San Clemente Handicap at Del Mar
The Bob Baffert trained, Eden’s Moon, will be debuting on grass in the Grade 2, $150,000 San Clemente Handicap on 22nd July, 2012. Hosted at Del Mar, this race will cover a distance of a mile.
In her six career starts, the daughter of Malibu Moon, out of Giant's Causeway mare Eden's Causeway, has competed on the dirt surface four times. She raced on a synthetic surface on 23rd June, 2012, when she competed in the
Grade 2 Hollywood Oaks at the Betfair Hollywood Park.
With rider Rafael Bejarano, the sophomore finished as a runner-up to, Potesta, by a narrow margin of a nose, over the 1 1/16 mile course.
With this performance the Kaleem Shah owned filly proved that she can adapt to the synthetic surface and, will be able to handle the turf just as well.
The filly will ride in the capable hands of Rafael Bejarano as a high-weight with 121 pounds and she will break from post position 4 to enter the race.
Bred by Bridlewood Farm in Florida, Eden’s Moon has claimed some massive victories including the Grade 1 Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita Park on 3rd
March, 2012, where she completed the 1 mile course in 1 minute and 35.27 seconds and defeated, Reneesgotzip.
Rider, Rafael Bejarano, usually doesn’t prefer racing on turf, but he is willing to make an exception in this case.

He excelled when he mounted the Bob Baffert trained, Midnight Crooner, and led him to victory in the Oceanside Stakes on the opening day at Del Mar on 18th July, 2012.
The fact that he aced on this surface proves that he is talented and can handle different surfaces as well.

With a victory for Baffert already in the bag at Del Mar, the rider is hoping that he can claim another one for the renowned trainer.
Eden’s Moon will try her best to claim this race but, it will not be an easy race since the Simon Callaghan trained Byrama will be tough to beat, as she will be ridden by Garrett K. Gomez.
