Eden’s Moon to take on graded stakes company in the Grade 3 Santa Ysabel Stakes
It is time for the newly turned 3-year-old filly, Eden’s Moon, to try out graded stakes company in the Grade 3 Santa Ysabel Stakes at Santa Anita Park, going over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on dirt against seven other 3-year-old fillies.
The filly is trained by Bob Baffert for owner, Kaleem Shah.
Eden’s Moon broke her maiden recently at second asking, over a mile on dirt at Santa Anita Park on 8 January, 2012, where she came over a good field of 3-year-old fillies, downing Music Thunder in second, and Conjure the Spirit in third, while covering the distance in 1 minute and 36.75 seconds, under jockey M. Garcia.
She made her debut at Hollywood Park over the venue’s cushion track, going over a distance of six furlongs on 18 December, 2011. Ridden by M. Garcia, Eden’s Moon finished second to winner, Reneesgotzip.
“Her maiden win was pretty impressive, and she’s trained forwardly since,” the Hall of Fame trainer said.
“The Santa Ysabel is a pretty tough race. I think the best fillies in California are all in there.”
The Florida bred daughter of Malibu Moon, out of mare Eden’s Causeway by Giant’s Causeway, Eden’s Moon is going into the Santa Ysabel Stakes with a win in her maiden stakes race by a margin of almost 8 lengths.
“I didn’t think she could lose first out,” said Baffert, who saw Eden’s Moon go off at 2-5 against Reneesgotzip at Hollywood Park on December 18, only to finish second.
Bob added, “But my filly likes going long.”
Eden’s Moon's inclusion in the Santa Ysabel Stakes isn’t only the high point of the race as rivalries will be renewed in the same race when Killer Graces and Charm the Maker will meet for the first time in the new season.
Prior to the race, Killer Graces taught Charm The Maker a stern lesson in cutting her in the Sharp Cat Stakes, as the two fillies are now even at a score of 1-1.
A lot is on the line in the Grade 3 Santa Ysabel Stakes, and the thrill and excitement of the race is much anticipated by racegoers and fans alike.
