Ederson of Olympique Lyonnais seeking contract extension – Ligue 1 news
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 beyond the current campaign.
The 25-year-old midfielder is in the final year of his contract with Les Gones and is now pressurising Lyon to extend his stay at the Stade de Gerland. The Brazilian signed for Lyon from Nice in January 2008 for 14 million Euros. Reports suggest that the
former Juventude man snubbed the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid in order to play for the seven-time Ligue 1 champions.
After missing almost all of the 2010/2011 Ligue 1 campaign due to injury, Ederson has featured in all of Lyon’s last 10 games which included the memorable 7-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb which guaranteed Lyon’s progression to the knockout phases of the UEFA Champions
League.
Ederson was initially linked with a move away from the Rhone club a few weeks back after it was found out that contract negotiations between his agent and the Lyon officials had come to an end with both parties failing to reach an agreement.
However, Ederson is now keen on staying at the club. while talking to the media, the midfielder said, “Right now, my agent is talking with the club. I want to extend. I want to stay at Lyon. I’m waiting to see if there is an agreement. But I want to know
how Lyon want to use me. It is important for me to play in my real position which is number 10, behind the strikers. To be successful for the team, it’s important for me to understand a few things. For now, I remain calm and focused on the field and the game.”
In other words, the South American has put the ball in Lyon’s court who should make a quick decision on Ederson’s future who will certainly have no shortage of suitors once his contract expires in June 2012.
However, Remi Garde has already extended the contract of young prospect Clement Grenier (who plays in the same position as Ederson). Furthermore, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ederson-c11880 might be better off in
seeking a new club rather than being consigned to a largely peripheral role at the club.
