Edgar Davids parts company with Crystal Palace
League Championship side Crystal Palace have confirmed that they have parted company with former Dutch international Edgar Davids.
The player arrived at Selhurst Park in a pay-as-you-play deal in August, but left the club after failing to perform in a Crystal Palace team that has had a poor start to the season.
On his own website, Davids said, "Today I have decided that my journey as a player of Crystal Palace FC has come to an end."
The Dutch international joined Crystal Palace on a free transfer, and had not played competitive football since leaving Ajax in 2008.
Davids was keen to express his gratitude to the Championship team and said, “I want to thank all the people who supported me and gave me one of the greatest experiences of my life."
The player began his career with Ajax and was part of the Champions League winning side that included Patrick Kluivert and Clarence Seedorf.
He then joined AC Milan, but failed to make an impact at the club and left after making just 15 appearances for the Italian side in one season.
The central midfielder moved to Juventus and had a far more successful period in Turin before spending time with Barcelona, Inter Milan and Spurs. The player then moved back to his former club Ajax before joining Crystal Palace.
Crystal Palace issued a statement on their website that confirmed Davids' departure and said, "The club would like to thank Edgar for his time here and wish him all the best of luck for the future."
The club are currently bottom of the Championship and have only taken 11 points from 15 games.
Crystal Palace have struggled this season and the 37-year-old Davids has been unable to show any of the form that established him as a world class midfielder.
The player has yet to announce his retirement from the game.
