Edgar Davids 'thinking over' offer from Crystal Palace
Former Holland international Edgar Davids is thinking over an offer to join Crystal Palace, according to George Burley. The Eagles boss said the 37-year-old is “seriously considering” the chance to resume his playing career with the Football League Championship outfit.
Davids, whose former clubs include Ajax, AC Milan, Juventus, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Tottenham, has not featured in a competitive football match for two years and is said to be keen on a return to playing.
'Interesting scenario'
Burley spoke to BBC London 94.9 and said that: "He's quite keen on the idea of coming to play at Palace. It's one he's seriously considering. Hopefully he will come, it would certainly be an interesting scenario."
The former Scotland manager added that the player had been training with Ajax in a bid to work back to match fitness: "There's no doubting his intention is to play again. I don't know how fit he is. He certainly looks fit and there's no doubt about his quality and for younger players to see someone like that training and playing would be great."
Development role
Burley aims to bring in the midfielder to not only play for his side, but also help to develop the younger players at the club. He also said that, though he was hopeful of recruiting Davids, the deal had not yet been tied up: "It's not going to be a financial thing for Edgar. It's a challenge for him. At the moment it's still a little bit up in the air and we'll see what happens in the next couple of days."
Davids, has won 74 international caps with the Netherlands, has enjoyed an illustrious career that has seen him become one of the most recognisable players in the world due to his protective eye-wear and dreadlocks. He has picked up three Dutch league titles and three Italian league winners’ medals as well as the UEFA Champions League – a competition he has reached the final of another three times.
