Edgardo Sol has been given the best odds for the Isle of Skye Blended Whisky Scottish Champion Hurdle (Limited Handicap) Grade 2 at Ayr in England on Saturday, April 21, 2012. The triumphant horse will be awarded a cash prize of £22,780 in the end.
The going will be good in the 2 mile race, which is scheduled to start at 14:50 GMT. A total of 10 entries have been confirmed for today’s event and their names are as follows: Edgardo Sol, Charm School, Petit Robin, Raya Star, Red Merlin, Tetlami,
Desert Cry, Local Hero, Clerk´s Choice and Megastar.
The bookmakers expect Edgardo Sol to be strong in today’s race, as he is in very good rhythm at the moment. Although his strike rate is not much impressive, he has improved a lot recently, thus the bettors will definitely risk a lot of money in his
favour.
In his most recent run, the Paul Nicholls’s trained runner performed magnificently, as he ended up on top of the table by a huge margin of 14 lengths. He was dominant right from the start and kept on increasing his speed as the event progressed. He
is expected to repeat such a show once again at Ayr today.
Overall, the five-year-old gelding has entered 10 races over hurdles, winning one of them and finishing runner up on the same number of times. In addition to that, he has also secured a couple of third place finishes. He will be partnered by Ruby Walsh,
who has won 156 races over hurdles at a brilliant strike rate.
On the other hand, Red Merlin will also be a force to reckon in the race, as he is in exceptional form right now. He has taken part in seven races over hurdles, winning four of them and finishing runner up once.
The seven-year-old gelding has will definitely attract a lot of bets in his favour, as he has won four back to back races. He will be ridden by seasoned jockey, Jason Maguire, who has won 262 races over hurdles.
Looking at the current form of the top two favourites, it will be a tough task for the remaining runners to fight for victory.
