I am teaching a class for k-2 graders and it is edible art.

Does any one have some ideas. For example if I talked about ants we could make ant logs. I am doing this for 10 weeks an hour a week. so I need 10 ideas

and fill in the search: edible art for the particular age, etc.  Hope this helps. I'm sure you'll find something here! Have fun and good luck!

  3. I've taught a lesson using the color wheel as a reference.

Teach students the primary colors, then secondary colors, and where they are on the color wheel.

Then pass out 6 vanilla wafer cookies for each student. Pass out three dishes of frosting dyed in the three primary colors and have them frost three cookies to represent those colors on their color wheel.

Then they get to mix frosting colors to make secondary colors and frost three cookies for those.

Have the students place their cookies in order of the color wheel. They can then eat their colors if they wish!

  4. I would recommend against doing any edible art lessons with children that young. Most of the recommendations I have read here are for lessons that involve food, they not really "art" lessons. Currently here in Ohio there is an intense effort by the local health departments because of a new state law, to ban all food and food items from art rooms. Teachers are not even allowed to have hand disinfectant in their rooms. Besides I found that the idea of eating things carries over to the regular art room. I used to have students put scented markers up their noses, eat paint, etc. Best bet is to either do real art lessons without food, or do lessons about food with food in a safe area.
