Edickson Contreras wins Men’s 3m Springboard dive-off gold: Day seven – 18th FINA Diving World Cup
Edickson Contreras of Venezuela served notice of his talent by clinching gold medal of Men’s 3m Springboard dive-off on the closing day of the 18th Federation Internationale Federation de Natation Amateur (FINA) Visa Diving World
Cup at the Aquatics Centre, Olympic Park in London on Sunday, February 26.
The FINA Diving World Cup was of considerable importance as it provided an opportunity to all divers to demonstrate their aggressive efforts in their respective disciplines before the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
Contreras remained prominently ahead of his challengers in all rounds of the event. With his smothering efforts, he crushed hopes of his challengers, who were eyeing the title of the 3m discipline.
Contreras scored an incredible total of 432.95 points to prove his supremacy over his opponents. With his noteworthy efforts, he remained 11.65 points ahead of his strongest competitor, Stefanos Paparounas of Greece, who settled on the podium for second
position by clinching 421.30 points.
The silver medallist remained in a lead of nearly nine points from his subsequent diver, Tommaso Rinaldi of Italy, who seized third finest spot of the discipline by accomplishing a score of 412.55 points.
The fourth position of the discipline was claimed by Yorick De Bruijn of Netherlands, who was only 0.25 points behind his former position holder and obtained 412.30 points for fourth position.
Columbia’s Sebastian Villa Castaneda transpired on the overall points table for fifth position as he achieved a score of 410.95 points for fifth best spot. He was trailed by Robert Paez of Venezuela, who stayed 3.15 points apart and seized sixth position
of the event with an effort of 407.80 points.
Paez stayed in a lead of 6.65 points over Damien Cely of France, who notched 401.15 points for seventh position. Alexandros Manos of Greece remained slightly behind his preceding finisher as he ended eighth with an effort of 397.35 points.
The arena appreciated commendable efforts of all participants in the Men’s 3m event on final session of the championship whereas the position holders received awards and accolades for their notable efforts at the medal ceremony of the tournament.
