Edin Dzeko: Brief Player Profile and Transfer Prospect
The Bosnian International, Edin Dzeko is one of the most talented strikers around the globe. Recently, he has also emerged as the most vital player for the German side, Wolfsburg.
Dzeko was transferred from Gambrinus Liga to Bundesliga for €4 million during 2007 summers.
Dzeko was also named as the best striker in the first half of the German league of 2007-08 season. During his first season with Wolfsburg, his club finished at fifth place, thus qualifying for a European Cup spot. The Bosnian striker finished his 2007–08
season with eight goals and seven assists in seventeen games.
Dzeko’s goal tally was second only to his team-mate, Edinaldo Batista Libânio, with whom he formed the most lethal striking combination in German League history. In the German knockout club competition, Dzeko scored six goals in two matches and in the UEFA
Cup, four goals and two assists in eight matches.
Moreover, Dzeko was one of the thirty players nominated for the 2009 Ballon d'Or.
In addition to that, Dzeko also became the top scorer of the German League in the 2009–10 season with 22 goals to his name. On 28th August 2010, the Bosnian striker became the top league scorer in the history of Wolfsburg with 59 goals in 96 appearances,
thus breaking the record of Diego Klimowicz, who had scored 57 goals in his 149 games.
After such wonderful consistent performances, Dzeko was linked with a number of high profile clubs, most notably being the Italian giants, AC Milan. But, Dzeko decided to stay at Wolfsburg and renewed his contract until June 2013. Even this summer, he was
linked with some big clubs in Europe.
It is Manchester City and Juventus who are willing to sign the young Bosnian striker. Both these clubs went toe-to-toe all summer in their attempts to snare the talented striker but the German outfit set a price tag so high that even the big spending Manchester
City had to turn to other options.
The City boss still remains interested in the talented Bosnian centre forward, and he may make a new move for him in the upcoming winter transfer window, given the fact that Emmanuel Adebayor and Santa Cruz are both unsettled at the club and are angling
for a move away.
Previously, Dzeko has spoken of his desire to join AC Milan. Serie A is surely an attractive option for him but City’s spending power may prove to be the deciding factor in the end.
Juventus will surely try to sign Edin Dzeko again after the winter break and similarly AC Milan will also been interested in making the star to come at San Siro.
It had been understood a few months ago that the Bosnian striker has agreed terms with the Italian outfit, Juventus, and would join them next summers.
‘The Old Lady’ are looking to bid for some new players in the upcoming winter transfer window, and Dzeko is a name that has not been crossed off the list.
Meanwhile, Manchester City are being considered as the stronger side to land the Bosnian striker in the end. City's Italian coach, Roberto Mancini will be given funds to sign the highly talented striker in the winter, and it is
believed that the Wolfsburg front man features highly on his list of targets.
It won't be a surprise if the big-spending City splash the cash to attain the services of the Wolfsburg centre forward, but the Italian giants, Juventus will not make it a one horse race. The Old Lady have made no secret of their ambition to sign him, and
have pursued him for more than a year now.
