Edin Dzeko aims Champions league football with Manchester City
Striker Edin Dzeko vows to take his new club Manchester City into the Champions League, once the deal finalizes between Wolfsburg and Manchester City.
It would be a matter time before Manchester City finalizes the deal for the 24-year-old, as City manager Roberto http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 confirmed that a fee has been agreed to with the German club. Medical and other formalities have also been
dealt with and Dzeko will become a City player in the coming week.
It was Dzeko’s season when he catapulted the unlikely Wolfsburg to the German league title two years ago. Dzeko has also scored 4 times in six Champions league fixtures, which includes two against City rivals Manchester United.
The Bosnian now looks to help his new club Manchester City to the UEFA Champions League, which is the top club competition in Europe.
"After reaching the Champions League with Wolfsburg a couple of seasons ago, I don't want to go back to a lower standard. I want to keep testing myself against the best, and I hope I can help make that happen with City," stated
the striker.
Dzeko was all set to join his favourite club AC Milan in the summer of 2009, but instead signed a contract extension with Wolfsburg. The contract had a buyout clause for the Bosnian, which only Manchester City had the financial
strength to match. Dzeko keeps on improving and many believe that the signing would be profitable for Man City in the long term, as they may sell him off on a better profit to clubs like Barcelona, AC Milan or Real Madrid, later.
The 24-year-old expressed his emotions for AC Milan when he was young and would want to play for the Italian Giants one day.
"I want to keep improving, and playing at the highest level possible, but as a small boy, all I could think of was playing for Milan. I still have a home in Sarajevo, and there is a room where the walls are covered with football
jerseys. One is the red and black stripes of Milan, with Shevchenko's name and number on the back. It has pride of place," claimed the striker.
