Edin Dzeko and Fernando Torres protected by their respective clubs
Wolfsburg goal machine Edin Dzeko has been a topic of speculation since the start of the transfer window in July. None other than the high spending Manchester City have been constantly linked with a move for the Yugoslavian, but the managing director of the club is frustrated by the transfer talks for the player. Dieter Hoeness, the managing director for the club, voiced his opinion regarding the matter, stating that the player will not be sold, no matter what the offer is.
His statement seemingly feel on deaf ears as currently clubs like Juventus and Manchester City are still on the lookout for the gifted striker. Even German heavy weights Bayern Munich are said to be interested in the goal machine, which therefore means that Wolfsburg might only be creating more value for the player.
The director stated that enough is enough regarding the transfer speculations, and claimed that the club has made its position clear regarding the matter, and will therefore say nothing about the matter now.
"We have made our position clear and I will not say anything more about it.", claimed the managing director. Dzeko signed a new deal just last year, which held an escape clause worth of about 33 million pounds, but the deal line for that clause expired back in the beginning of July.
None of the clubs in Europe approached Wolfsburg by that date, and Hoeness has now declared that the player is not for sale at any cost whatsoever. Wolfsburg has already started making plans for the new season, where Dzeko features as an integral part of manager Steve McClaren’s plans.
Since joining the side in 2007, Dzeko has scored 56 goals in 94 appearances, with 22 of them coming last season. The player’s presence was the main reason why Wolfsburg won their first ever league title back in the 08/09 season, where they won 10 consecutive matches after the winter break.
Wolfsburg however is not the only club who looks to secure its striker. Troubled Premier League club Liverpool also look to secure their star striker Fernando Torres. Newly signed manager, Roy Hodgson, expects the Spanish to stay with the Reds, at least for the coming season.
Again, Manchester City has been linked with a move for Torres, who reportedly offered 70 million pounds for the 26 year old. Hodgson would not want anything of the sort to happen, and stated that the player will be back with the club on Monday, 2nd August, and train with the club. The manager added that the player has been spending a lot of time with his family lately and has kept a low profile.
Hodgson knows that the player deserves a well deserved break, as Spain won the World Cup. Torres is enjoying is holidays, something which he has not had over three years, claimed Roy Hodgson. The Liverpool manager added that the player has not spoken with anyone yet, and has only told the club that he will be looking forward to training with the club on Monday, train and was relishing to play in the new season with the Reds.
"That is what I know so other reports, I would suggest, are erroneous", claimed the manager. Torres’s presence for Liverpool has been phenomenal but had an injury plagued season last year. The player has scored 72 times for the Reds in 116 appearances, and forms formidable partnership with club captain Steven Gerrard.
Torres also failed to score a single goal in the World Cup, despite playing all 7 matches of Spain’s World Cup winning campaign. The player was seen withering in pain while chasing a ball towards the end of the World Cup final. An injury has ruled out Torres for three weeks, and is due back to Liverpool in the coming weeks. Liverpool needs to hang on to Torres, if they are to revive themselves from their disappointing 7th place finish last season, and re-establish itself at the position it deserves.
