  1. theres a lot of construction work taking place in edinburgh just now but i doubt your hotel will be affected, its quite central so there may be bit noise etc during day but most construction work finshes around 5 o clock

  2. na, think the hotel is fine. If in doubt, check their website, or phone them.

  3. I was around the Apex last night, bar a couple of spots where the pavement narrows with barriers up it isnt really affected, the area opposite is all barriered off and it isnt very photogenic, but shouldnt affect your stay.

The work will still be ongoing on Monday, but there isnt much noise even during the day. The Grassmarket is loud at night for other reasons - if worried ask for one of the many rooms NOT facing the front.

The work overall looks about half complete, a lot of setts being put in place mostly now (Scottish version of cobbles), traffic is constricted and diverted, but I wouldnt really call what is left now 'roadworks' its more the former parking spaces along the Grassmarket being converted to a pedestrian area.

  4. The whole area is being refurbished but work will cease over the summer.

Construction work will be suspended in key areas throughout the Grassmarket for the Jazz Festival, the Grassmarket Fair and the August festivals.

Events space (cobbled area opposite pubs and restaurants)

We are working on these areas now, so they will be available for the Jazz Festival, the Grassmarket Fair and the August festivals.

The western area should be complete by early July (in particular, the area in front of The Lot was completed in time for a 17 May wedding!).

We may have to leave some of the middle and the east events space and the Covenanters Area until after the Festival to make sure they can be used by the public during this busy time.

    North footway (pedestrianised area)

We have finished about half of the new pavement now, and should be finished the rest by early July.

Service access road (between Castle Wynd and the Bow Well)

Construction work will begin in early June. Work will be suspended over the Festival, and begin again in September.

Service access road (between Castle Wynd and West Grassmarket)

We are constructing this road now and should be

    complete by early July.

    South footway (main road)

We have completed the majority of the south pavement. The crossing points and vehicle entrances will be finished after the Festival.

    Grassmarket Road (main road)

We will resurfacing this road after the Festival,

and it will be complete in October.

    Victoria Street/West Bow

The west pavement should be complete in early June. The east pavement and the majority of the

setted roadway will be finished by the Festival.
