Edinburgh Knight seeking victory in Bet365 Lennox Stakes at Goodwood

After an excellent effort in defeat at Royal Ascot, Paul D'Arcy’s 5-year-old gelding, Edinburgh Knight, is riding high for the Group 2 Bet365 Lennox Stakes, to be held at Goodwood next Tuesday.
Ridden by William Buick, the Irish challenger was super impressive in the Betfair Summer Double International Stakes (Heritage Handicap) at Ascot last month. Despite a hampered start, the 12-1 chance did not lose his determination, and made steady progress
afterwards.
After switching right a furlong before the finishing line, Selkirk’s son took his speed to a great level, creating plenty of mess for the leading runners. He quickened up well to gain lead inside the final furlong. The bay gelding was in total command, but
unfortunately failed to retain his advantage.
He was caught near the line and as a result, missed the gold medal by half a length. Field Of Dream suddenly appeared with a huge surprise, and took the game away from him in the final moments.
Edinburgh Knight has been doing a fine job over the past few weeks. On good to firm, the Knights Racing-owned was runner-up behind Libranno in the Group 3 John Sunley Memorial Criterion Stakes at Newmarket.
Bred by New England Stud Myriad Norelands, the bay gelding did not perform well in his opening two trips this season. However, a couple of brilliant shows have boosted up his confidence to a great extent. Therefore, the connections have every reason to hope
for a positive result in next month’s 7-furlong event.
"I was delighted with the run, but disappointed to be beaten.  If he had been on the same side as the winner I think he would probably have beaten him. It was a cracking performance off that weight (9st 2lb). He runs in the Lennox Stakes at Goodwood next
Tuesday, a Group Two,” Newmarket-based D'Arcy told At The Races.
"I think Libranno might be favourite and he just beat our horse in the Group Three Criterion at Newmarket. I'd like to get him placed in a Group Two and get him an invitation to Hong Kong at the end of the year," he said of the Irish runner, who has six
wins under his belt.
