Edinburgh Rugby acquires Shaun Knight from Gloucester on short-term loan: Rugby News
Murrayfield Stadium based Scottish Rugby Union club, Edinburgh Rugby, has announced the signing of Gloucester Rugby’s front row forward, Shaun Knight. Officials from both the club have confirmed the Knight’s loan deal in statements released on their respective websites on Thursday, September 8.
The move will allow Edinburgh Rugby to add depth to their depleted front row forwards resources. The club lost most of their first choices players, who are on national duty to participate in the 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC).
The 2011 RWC will kick start in New Zealand on Friday, September 9 and will end in October, leaving a big gap in the Edinburgh squad.
Gloucester Rugby has agreed to release Knight to play for Edinburgh Rugby on a six-week short term loan.
Edinburgh Rugby head coach, Michael Bradley, has termed Knights inclusion as an “invaluable cover” for the team, particularly in the absence of their first choice front row forwards player.
Bradley further added, “He's a very talented young athlete with a bright future in the front row and has displayed, in his performances for England Under-20 and for Gloucester, experience, talent and grit beyond his years. I'm certain he will be an asset for Edinburgh Rugby in this short but critical time.”
The young prop has expressed his excitement on joining Edinburgh Rugby. Commenting on his short-term loan contract, he said, “I found out that Edinburgh Rugby wanted a tight-head and jumped at the chance to get some game time in the RaboDirect PRO12 and play a high standard of rugby for a well-known team.”
Knight added that the six-week stint with Edinburgh Rugby will provide him with the opportunity to play and compete with European scrum powerhouses. He added that this will be a new experience for him and will help him to improve his skills and become a better player.
