Edinburgh Rugby appoints Scotland international scrum half Greig Laidlaw as captain - Rugby
Murrayfield based Scottish Rugby Union outfit, Edinburgh Rugby, has appointed their talented scrum half, Greig Laidlaw, as the captain of the club, for the their 2011/12 season.
Edinburgh Rugby competes in the RaboDirect Pro 12 and European competitions like Heineken Cup etc.
Edinburgh Rugby head coach, Michael Bradley, has announced the appointment of Laidlaw as their leader for their 2011/12 season campaign in a statement released on their official website on
Tuesday, August 9.
Bradley has praised Laidlaw’s attributes, valuens, and rugby playing skills and he termed him as a quality player. He further added, “He’s hard working, leads by example, is constantly looking
to improve, is a team player and he has the respect of all of the playing staff, management and supporters.”
Bradley has confirmed the appointment of Roddy Grant as Laidlaw’s deputy for the season.
Bradley has extended his best wishes to Laidlaw and expressed his hope that he will earn a place i Scotland’s final 30-man squad for their 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC) campaign. He added they
have planned the season keeping view the possibility of omission of Laidlaw from the first few games of the new season.
Laidlaw has expressed his delight on assuming the role of the captain at the Edinburgh Rugby club. He added, “It’s a great honour to be named as captain. It is a great responsibility and one
I’m looking forward to taking on. I certainly like to captain the side by leading by example and will do my talking on the field for Edinburgh Rugby next season.”
Laidlaw admitted that currently he is concentrating more on the RWC preparations with the national side. However, he is aware of the fact that the players will need to work and train hard in
the next season, to finish the season on a high note.
Scotland international scrum half Laidlaw has thanked the club management, coaching staff and the players for their supports, which has helped him to become a better player. He added in his
previous five seasons with the club, he has thoroughly enjoyed the hard training sessions, the tough and close games, which has helped him to develop his game skills.
In 2010/11 season, Laidlaw played 26 games for the Edinburgh. He has scored 46 points for them in last season, which comprised of a try, seven conversions, and nine penalties.
The 25-year-old Laidlaw has the experience to lead a side. Besides leading Edinburgh Rugby in four games last season as a stand in captain, he has also led Scotland A, in 2010/11 season.
Laidlaw made his international debut for the Scotland against the touring All Blacks side in 2010. He so far has made only two international games for the Scotland. The August 6, pre-world
cup warm up encounter against the Ireland was his second international outing.
