Edinburgh beats Racing-Metro by a slight margin of 48-47 in Heineken Cup – Rugby News
The most thrilling match of the ongoing Heineken Cup 2011-12 was played between Edinburgh and Racing-Metro on Friday, November 18, at Murrayfield, in which the Scottish club got the better of French side by a narrow margin of 48-47. Both side displayed a
wonderful piece of entertainment for the large crowd as 11 tries were scored in the match. Edinburgh managed to cross the whitewash line six times, whereas Racing-Metro did the same job on five occasions. Scrum-half Greig Laidlaw and full-back Jonathan Wisniewski
scored 23 points each respectively for Edinburgh and Metro.
During the match, Tim Visser surprised Metro by a stunning first minute try to secure the early lead for Edinburgh. Laidlaw undertook the kicking role from this particular point and made the unforgettable with neat strikes. As many times his team-mates scored
a try he converted it flawlessly afterwards.
Edinburgh led the equation for the first 15 minutes of the match with 17-15 until Metro levelled the score to 17 with Juan Imhoff’s try. Metro accelerated in the match at a great pace and multiplied their total to 31-20 at interval. The quick scoring involved
three tries in last 25 minutes of the first half for them.
Racing-Metro raised up their lead to a convincing total of 44-20 after the resumption of play as their centre Henry Chavancy and full-back Wisniewski discovered the loop poles the rivals on several times. At this point Edinburgh looked off the colour especially
in their defending lines.
However, last 17 minutes proved to be the turning point of the match for Edinburgh. They score an unbelievable five tires in a short span to dismantle the rivals in miraculous way. Racing-Metro added just three points in last 25 minutes and conceded too
many at the same time and allowed the competitors to grab a nail biting victory of 48-47.
