  1. Edinburgh is expensive and it depends on what you're looking for - Flats are affordable in the areas posted above.  For a house, you need to be a wee bit out but there are nice places on the outskirts - Currie, Balerno, Kirkliston, South Queensferry, Mussleburgh are all good and have good schools.  For property, the best to check is the Edinburgh Solicitors Property Centre espc.co.uk as that's where most (probably 90%) of property is sold through.

  2. Trinity or Morningside. Both great atmospheres however fairly expensive completely safe but due to the schools in edinburgh either being public and have a bad reputation or being private but costing a lot it puts children and parents in a difficult position as soon as you settle i would recommend school hunting as the earlier you get your child on a list then the better chance they have even at 1 or 2 years old. It is fiercely competitive beyond the welcoming exterior.

  3. It depends on your budget. It is very very expensive to buy or rent in Edinburgh and council lets tend to be in dodgy areas.

Comely Bank, Juniper Green, Corstorphine, Fountainbridge, Trinity, Morningside, Stockbridge, Newington  are all nice and all the schools are ok. There are quite a few private schools as well, Have a look at S1 homes.com to get an idea of prices. This is quite a good site for primary schools:

  4. Stockbridge is am amazing area, i moved here recently, 10 mins to princes st (walking), 10 mins to inverleith park and the botanic gardens and theres the water of leith running through. Also theres a primary school, secondary school and swimming pool all in the area.

Stockbridge has a village feel which is amazing but property is not cheap.
