can anyone tell me any lovely villages in edinburgh and surrounding areas,countryside and no busy roads.x

  2. within edinburgh there are some lovley villages,eg duddingston,near arthurs seat,quiet with nature reserve and loch/bird sanctuary,has oldest pub in edin district(sheeps heid inn)

    colinton-SW edinburgh,lies on water of leith,old milling villiage,very quiet also,has a lot of history

    portobello-E edinburgh,now part of city,has beach,feel of a seaside town,its like a town within a city,good shopping etc

    on outskirts,there are places like currie,balerno,ratho on W side,haddington,musselburgh,prestonpans etc on E side(coastal)all are within 1/2 hour from city centre by car,and accessible by bus,they all have nice features and a lot of history,also sounth queensferry,beside forth rail and road bridges is a tranquil place,in the city again,cramond is lovley,once a roman fort,its now a quiet wee place by sea and river almond,there is an island which is accessible at low tide,i hope this is of some help to you!may i recomend a book"villages of edinburgh"by malcom cant,it tells you all you need to know in relation to edinburghs villages

  5. Swanston Village, small cottages, thatched roofs,on the northern slopes of the Pentland Hills overlooking Edinburgh

    Surrounded by country side and two golf courses with plenty of walks through the Pentlands. It's about five miles from Princes Street (see google map)
