The Uruguayan striker has been subject to constant speculation in this edition of the transfer window; however, he pledged his future by signing a new contract.
There has been widespread interest in the services of the former Danubio striker after he emerged as one of the top strikers of Europe due to his performances in the Serie A and the UEFA Champions League. He was instrumental in the success of the Neapolitan
outfit in the group stages of the Champions League, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 saw off the threat of Manchester City to progress into the next round along with Bayern Munich.
The striker was the focal point of the trio at Napoli, which included http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ezequiel-Lavezzi-c13073 and Marek Hamsik, and the three wreaked havoc in opposition defences throughout the Serie A and Europe. Interest grew in the services of the Uruguayan as a result and
there were a host of clubs interested in landing the striker.
Within http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926, if rumours and speculations are to be believed, Juventus were actively pursuing the services of the striker, and had made a few bids which involved the transfer of players and cash for Cavani. Napoli rebuffed the overtures of Turin; but could
not suppress interest by other teams.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Manchester City were also interested in the services of the striker; which prompted the president of the club, Aurelio De Laurentiis to state that the club would only listen to offers which came close to 100 million Euros. This effectively subsided
the interest in the striker as Napoli had made their intentions of holding on to the striker very clear.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danubio-c38898 striker has now signed a contract with the club which sees him stay at the club till 2017; and has a buy-out clause of 60 million Euros.
The 25 year old held a press conference to state his intent of staying at the club. He further stated:
“There will be no aeroplanes, I am very happy to announce I am staying with Napoli. I was convinced to stay after meeting with the President in Cardiff earlier this summer, and there was never any intention of seriously moving after that.”
Cavani has signed on for a salary of 4.5 million Euros per annum.
