Editing DVD RW disks

Question

I have a DVD Recorder. I would like to edit the commercials out of some movies I have recorded from TV. The User's Guide I received with the recorder is totally vague about the editing procedure.When I try to follow the instructions, I can't make it work. Also, the user's guide shows a drawing of the DVR menu which shows a selection that mine does not have.
