Question:

Editing files?

I have edit a file, checked it and was okay. Now there is some more editing for this file and to my surprise I can´t. Clicking edit I´ll get the file name and subname and if I want it sent to the group, you know like once a month or so. But the part underneath where the editing is done (file content) isn´t there anymore. I´ve been having this group for 5years, edited a lot of files, only had to deal with this kind off ´trouble´ once and solved it by making a new file, but this one is rather big. (Is that the problem, maybe?) What did I do wrong, and better yet, how can I solve it?

Thanks, Carla

  1. this is hard to explain but here goes-

there are two types of files that one can create

Add File | <-- this is a upload choice- cant edit content

Create Text File <-- this is creating text- can edit content

you can tell which are text files by the icon it has, looks like a note pad with black text. files that were Add File (uploaded) will have icons depending- PDF, Word noe of those can be edited other than what you described.

my guess would be, where you are looking are not text files and you cant edit them. when you click on one you want to edit- what comes up? what program opens it? copy it- paste it into a new create text file- you can edit it then

  2. Carla,

Can you create a new file?

If so, all you need do is copy&paste your old text file into the new one. Am I missing something?

  3. Since the file you are having trouble with is rather big, that could   have exceeded the space alloted for your entire Files area. You can check to see if this is the problem:

Click on Files.  The second column shows the size of each file.

Look on the lower right side for the percentage used of the allotted 100MB.

If that percentage shows at or close to 100%, you will have  to either edit and rewrite the text using lesser content,  or delete the text file on website and create a new Text File and upload your "revised" one from your computer.  You might even have some old files you no longer need which could be deleted to make more available File space.  I hope this makes sense to you.
