Editing sony handycam?

i desperately need to edit film from my sony handy cam. i installed the software that came with the camcorder but it says it has an error. are there any other free programs i could use

windows movie maker... it comes on ur computer for free... if u have windows vista type in the search box*windoes movie maker* ... if u have windows xp click on the programs folder and then click on acceciories and click on windows movie maker.... plz give my anwser the thumbs up... thanks and hope this helps
