Edmonton City council suspends the arena talks with the owner of Edmonton Oilers Daryl Katz
There were talks going on between Edmonton City council and Daryl Katz, the owner of Edmonton Oilers, a side that plays in the National Hockey League (NHL) but they have been suspended for the time being by the city council.
The talks were actually for the negotiation of the arena that Edmonton Oilers’ team plays in during their matches but the owner of the team did not look much interested in it and was not keen enough, which made the city council make this announcement.
There were a lot of demands by Katz and meetings were supposed to take place between the two parties but he seems to be running away, according to councillors.
The motion has been passed by councillor Dave Loken who told about Canadian’s lack of enthusiasm in attending the meeting and lack of interest which forced them to cut down the talks, as he wrote,
"As a result of Mr. Katz’s letter and unwillingness to have an open discussion with council and the frustration of the interim design agreement, all negotiations and ongoing city work related to the October 26, 2011, framework be ceased immediately."
Loken made it clear that they still want to make the deal in case Katz shows the willingness and they would still be in favour of negotiation to take place but they would not accept it through letters but on the table. Loken also gave a period of two weeks
to get it done as he said,
"If you want to negotiate, get to the table. If you want to talk to us, we have a meeting in two weeks. The door is wide open Mr. Katz. We're still willing to make a deal here."
Councilors have clearly kept the doors of the negotiations open between the two but now it depends on the 51 year old owner of the Western Conference team, that plays in the  Northwest Division of the NHL, if he wants to go the council or not.
Mostly people are of the opinion that Katz is actually not much interested in the deal and he may not reply to it immediately.
