Edmonton Oil Kings appoint Sean Brown as their assistant coach in the Western Hockey League
Sean Brown, a former professional ice hockey player, who played as a defenseman, has been appointed as the assistant coach of the Edmonton Oil Kings in the Western Hockey League (WHL).
The team announced on Friday that their former player, who served them many years as a player, will now serve them as an assistant coach.
Bob Green, the general manager of the Edmonton Oil Kings, told everyone that they are very excited to make his decision and appoint Brown as the part of their team. According to him, Brown’s experience will help them a lot and he would be a very useful person
for the team. He thinks Brown has played many years and learnt a lot and will teach their players too, as he said,
“We’re really excited to add another great hockey mind to our coaching ranks. Sean’s vast experience in both Major Junior hockey and the National Hockey League will be a huge asset to our staff and Sean will hopefully be able to pass some of that along to
our players.”
After starting his ice hockey career in 1992, the 35-year-old former blue liner joined Edmonton Oilers first team as a player in 1996 and then joined them back in 1998. He stayed there until 2002 and played six seasons for them.
The Oshawa, Ontario native also told his affiliation with the team, which he feels like, is his home. Oilers are very special for him as he was drafted by them long time back in 1995 and were the first major team that he joined. According to him, he will
be very happy to be back to Oilers as he said,
“The City of Edmonton means a lot to me. I was drafted in the 1995 Entry Draft held in Edmonton after my 3 years in the Canadian Hockey League. I’ll always cherish my time with the Oilers and have basically called Edmonton home ever since”.
Brown had also played for New Jersey Devils and Boston Bruins in the NHL, as he played two seasons each for both of the teams. He played 436 NHL games in total and scored 14 goals, 43 assists for total of 57 points.
