Edmonton Oilers’ 1st round pick of 2011 draft Oscar Klefbom wants to spend one more season in Sweden
Oscar Klefbom, a very talented defenseman from Sweden, who was selected 19th overall in the round of 2011 NHL draft by Edmonton Oilers, wants to spend one more season in his native country, Sweden’s hockey league before making his NHL debut.
19-year-old Oscar still has one year left in his contract with Farjestad Bollklubb in Sweden’s elite hockey league, which is called Elitserien Hockey League. He has been playing them for last three years and wants to spend the fourth even though Oilers have
showed a desire to bring him in 2012-2013 season.
The 6-foot-3, 204 pounder does not want to have that feeling of not being ready and sent back so he wants to join Oilers only when he is sure that he is 100% ready to go. The blue liner also thinks that Farjestad gives him an opportunity to be a good player
as he said,
"It's been a long discussion. Edmonton wants me to come over and try but I don't want to come over and feel like I'm not ready. I think Farjestad is a really good opportunity for me to be a really good player."
The Edmonton, Alberta based side is looking to get his services as soon as possible to turn him into a long time prospect and thinks it is the right time as he is physically huge fully grown up and mature enough to play in the NHL, especially after having
a good season in Swedish league and wants him to adjust in the North American region early.
Karlstad, Sweden born thinks that it is exciting to be playing with superstars like Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent Hopkins and Nail Yakupov but he wants to wait one or two years for this opportunity as he added,
"It's so exciting. Maybe in one or two years you're going to play with these superstars -- Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov”.
The member of Swedish team that won World Junior Championships earlier this year also talked about wearing an arm-band of “C” and its charm.
"I like the responsibility to be captain," he said. "I know all the guys. I have lots of respect for them and they respect me as a captain. I think that's a positive thing for me, it brings me energy. I like it."
