Edmonton Oilers' General Manager Steve Tambellini not spilling out No.1 Pick Details -NHL Update
With the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft right around the corner, everyone is wonder who Edmonton Oilers’ general manager, Steve Tambellini, will pick as the no.1 player this time around for the third straight time in three seasons.
Steve Tambellini might be building up from the inside but he still will not spill the beans on who the Edmonton Oilers will be selecting with their first overall pick and has told the world to just watch and wait.
For Tambellini, this is definitely a crucial period of time as a number of teams are also believed to be making some huge offers to the Oilers’ general manager in exchange for the top pick. Other than that, making a valuable pick is something they also need
to do since luck has been on their side in terms of drafting three straight times now and it cannot always stay that way.
"Our scouting staff has been very consistent from the halfway meetings to those meetings in the spring," Tambellini said. "A few things moved around, as always, but big picture, they're consistent with their direction and what they believe, in the end, the
rankings will be. So I'm very comfortable with Stu's assessment."
Many circles around the major league were of the view that the talent was not as high in the draft this time around as compared to previous years, but Tambellini is definitely against that view.
"There's decent balance," he added. "I think the draft has been a little underestimated for some time and now people are recognizing there are some high-end people here."
Tambellini selected Taylor Hall with his top pick back in 2010 and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in 2011. Both players have incorporated themselves with each and became an undefeatable duo last season, now, Tambellini aims on making it an unstoppable trio.
Edmonton has already regarded this year’s draft pick as one they will move in with Hall and Nugent-Hopkins, so making the right choice on selecting a forward or defenseman is extremely crucial to it all.
Some have even hinted at a goalie being picked first but the likes of that is certainly hard to believe.
